We honor their success and continued support by telling their stories and sharing their fondest memories of being a Sun Devil. We thank and congratulate these amazing Sun Devils for their achievements in athletics and beyond. They will always be a part of the great legacy of Sun Devil Athletics they have helped shape.

MIKE DAVIES – WRESTLING 1984-1988

Mike Davies saw major success as a Sun Devil. The two-time All-American wrestler and Hall of Fame inductee was a four-time conference finalist, three-time Pac-10 title winner, and captain of the 1988 NCAA National Championship team. During that 1988 season he was 40-3 and became Arizona State’s then all-time victory leader with 136 career wins. Mike graduated in May of 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in physical education.

After graduation, he moved to Boise, Idaho, where he served as the assistant wrestling coach at Boise State University. Now, Mike continues to display his love of wrestling through his volunteer work with local high school wrestling programs.

Mike Davies shares with us his memories as a student-athlete as well as his involvement with Sun Devil Athletics.

Where are you doing now?

I own a health insurance agency in Boise, Idaho. I love getting to watch my three girls grow up. My oldest will be a freshman at ASU next year and she will be a student manager with the wrestling team.

What was your favorite memory while you were at ASU?

Most people would think I would say the match I won to become ASU’s all-time winningest wrestler (at that time) or the 1988 NCAA team tile, but it was when I graduated. When I came to ASU as an athlete-student I never thought I would graduate. It is by far my favorite memory!

What are you most excited about this upcoming year with Sun Devil Athletics?

Zeke Jones, the wrestling coach, is starting to build a team that could turn into a dynasty. He recruited the No. 2 class in the country this year, so it will be fun watching the team for years to come.

How do you stay connected with ASU?

I currently sit on the executive board for ASU wrestling and attend as many events as possible.

Why do you think it is important to give back to Sun Devil Athletics?

I give back to ASU in any way I can. ASU is part of my everyday life and ASU has given so much to me. It’s a two-way street. ASU gave first, now it’s my turn to give back. I’m a Sun Devil for life!
